About Us

I started Simply Math after spending nearly twenty years teaching in public education.  I have worked in a variety of school settings that include one of the highest ranking public schools in Florida, as well as the largest online school in the nation.  I have also taught in private schools, alternative schools for troubled youth, and assisted my wife with the homeschooling of our four children.  Regardless of your child’s educational path, I have been there.  I have the highest math certification attainable in the state of Florida, and was a Best and Brightest Scholarship recipient.  In order to recieve the award I had to score above the 80th percentile on the ACT and have a teacher evaluation of highly effective.  My education includes a masters degree from Nova Southeastern University where my thesis paper was on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME).  RME was developed in the Netherlands at the Freudenthal Institute and is grounded in the philosophy that  mathematical understanding should be formed by focusing on contexts that students can relate to.  While I’m proud of my advanced degree, my teaching philosophy is formed primarily from the successes and failures of my teaching career over the past several years.  I measure my success, by the success of my students.  My goal with Simply Math is to provide math instruction in a professional but approachable way, so that students can be successful and enjoy the learning process.  We currently offer online tutoring, but are in the process of building stand alone math courses for homeschool and alternative school students.
